Our Vision

The Opera Initiative strives to make the culture of music into a real and significant part of our society. By doing this, also signaling to other art forms that the additional responsibility of culture in general is to create contacts between individuals in a society, not only to provide pure enjoyment of the art form itself. This incremental benefit of culture becomes even more important in a society that increasingly consists of people with multi-cultural backgrounds.

Our vision is based on the belief that music provides the best conditions for finding ways of communication and forms of sharing interest between people. The vision can be extended to include the all-encompassing power of music also on song and dance that could be performed in a totally modern performing arts center in Stockholm.

Given that Sweden already has a wide ethnic mix, the country will become one of the most integrated countries in the world by the middle of this century.

The performing arts centre will become a symbol of Sweden as one of the world's most successfully integrated countries.

Sweden can become a flagship for a multi-cultured society and progress.

Our vision at the time of founding the Initiative in June 2008:

The Opera Initiative promotes a new, national stage based in Stockholm for opera, ballet and other forms of performing arts.

We are committed to achieving our vision of creating a modern, national stage for song, music and dance. The old, beautiful and much be-loved Royal Opera House at Gustaf Adolf's Square needs to be upgraded. Its role as the prime arena for the performing arts no longer can be fulfilled as the stage was constructed for an era when electricity had just been invented and the marvelous sound of the music had to find its way through heavy red velvet and gilded pilasters.
